In 1995, Sharla Trillo became the founding director of CNPA Advertising Services, which at that time was called the Complete Newspaper Network (CNN). CNPA sold the ad-placement service in 1999 to the Newspaper Association of America, which in turn sold it to The Associated Press. Sharla worked with the ad-placement service for both the NAA and the AP. She returned to CNPA in 2003 to rebuild the service for the association. As director, she manages overall operations, sales, marketing and accounting.
Before CNPA, Trillo held a variety of managerial positions at the Sacramento Union, working 11 years in circulation, marketing and advertising. She also worked for McClatchy newspapers for seven years, managing three weekly publications and later becoming the national advertising director for 18 subsidiary newspapers in five Western states.
Sharla and Lonnie, her husband of 36 years, are natives of Sacramento and live in Rancho Murieta. They have two sons, Lonnie and David, and four grandchildren, Ashley, Devin, Riley and Nicolas.
