Directors of the CNPA Foundation on July 20 approved a motion to merge its assets with those of the California Press Association and transfer the Foundation's nonprofit status to the Cal Press. Cal Press members will vote on the merger at their annual meeting in December.

The CNPA Foundation, formed in 1993, provides cash grants to California campus newspapers, high school newspaper advisers and to newspaper interns.

The California Press Association, formed in 1878, preserves and honors the legacy and leadership of California newspapering and supports its future. Cal Press members underwrite two internship grants each year. The group also seeded a program that continues to provide training funds for high school advisers.
