Highlights of the July 20 meeting of the CNPA Board of Directors:

Public notices

CNPA will carry out a Board mandate to contract with another state press association to aggregate all public notices in California onto a single website. Such a move is intended to pre-empt others who would create their own such site.

The site will be populated by public-notice ads as run by individual, adjudicated newspapers.

CNPA will contract with a nationally known polling firm to perform telephone interviews with newspaper readers to ascertain their habits with public notices and other newspaper content. The pollster also will gauge their use of other media. CNPA and its members will use the results as a sales tool and a lobbying resource.

Three new members

The CNPA Board of Directors approved three applications for membership. They are:

The News Review, Ridgecrest (Weekly); Patricia Farris, Publisher

The McBride Group LLC, Petaluma; John Burgess, digital division manager

Whiz Technologies Inc., San Jose; Nikhil Modi, CEO

CNPA, across all categories, now totals 857 members.

The next Quarterly Meeting will be Oct. 19, 2012, at the Citizen Hotel in Sacramento.
