This week both the Senate and Assembly unanimously passed AB 352 by Assemblywoman Audra Strickland (R-Camarillo) which would add a requirement to the
state’s Education Code requiring the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF)
to comply with the California Public Records Act. Monday’s vote in the Senate was
32-0. Yesterday, the Assembly approved the bill in a 77-0 vote.
Although CIF is not a government agency, several years
ago the legislature passed similar legislation that requires CIF to conduct it’s
meetings in accordance with the Brown Act.
The governor has not yet taken a position on AB 352 as
it heads to his desk as early as next week. He will have 12 days after he
receives it to sign or veto the bill.
