If you have not joined or signed up for the new CNPA Internet Consortium, your time is running out. Eric Johnston and his committee are preparing for a January launch to get a share of the political dollars that are currently being spent for next year's governor’s election. Both parties have several candidates vying to represent their party, and they are already spending money. The last number I recall reading was $163 million.
The success President Obama had using the Internet to both raise money and communicate with voters will not be overlooked by California political strategists. They will be mimicking his successful strategy. Our ability to deliver statewide coverage, along with just one bill, should position the CNPA Consortium as a sought-after buy.
The statewide newspaper support for the consortium is incredible. Every major daily in the state has agreed to join. Most newspaper groups have agreed to participate. Independent papers from north to south have also joined. When the dust settles, it would not surprise me if between 300 and 400 papers are in the consortium.
The large number of papers participating is the key. The California newspaper consortium may be the largest in the nation.
If you have already agreed to join, please be sure that the proper paperwork has been completed to get your paper activated. Jack Bates can send you necessary signup forms if you have misplaced yours. Technical help is available if you have questions.
So publishers, let's start our Internet engines and begin the new year with millions of dollars of political advertising.|
