Body camera bill moves to Privacy committee
Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) saw his body camera bill soar out of the Assembly Public Safety Committee on the consent calendar on Tuesday.
AB 748 requires any police agency utilizing body cameras to develop a policy on publicly accessible footage captured by police to the fullest extent authorized by the California Public Records Act. The policy would be required to be conspicuously posted on the agency’s website.
The bill will be heard next in the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee when the legislature returns from spring recess.
